About PM Pools & Spas

PM Pools & Spas is a hands-on pool company based in Cape May County, operating in Stone Harbor, Avalon, Middle Township, and Dennis Township.. We build custom gunite pools, handle renovations, take care of weekly cleaning and maintenance, open and close pools every season, and repair equipment when something goes wrong. Everything is done by our own team. When you call us, you get us.

More than half of our work comes from repeat customers and referrals. We have been a PHTA member since the day we opened, and we hold some of the most respected certifications in the industry including CBP®, CSP®, CST®, and a Certified Pool Startup Technician® credential through the National Plasterers Council. We also have a retail showroom at 760 Route 47 N. in Cape May Court House where you can stop in for pool supplies, chemicals, and free water testing.

How PM Pools & Spas Got Started

Dan Young founded PM Pools & Spas in July 2006, but his career in the pool industry started long before that. By the time he opened the doors, he had already spent well over a decade working in nearly every corner of the business, building pools, servicing equipment, managing retail operations, and overseeing day-to-day service across Cape May and Cumberland counties.

In 1999, Dan shifted his focus to the retail and service side of the industry. He became Spa Service Manager and eventually General Manager at his previous employer, a role that gave him a close look at what pool companies do well and where they fall short. When he started PM Pools & Spas, he built it around a straightforward idea: keep things simple for the homeowner, do the work properly, and stand behind it.

Joseph Stackhouse has been part of the PM Pools story since his teenage years, when he first joined the company as a summer pool service technician. After taking time away, he returned to PM Pools in March 2018, bringing with him a renewed commitment and broadened life experience. Since then, he has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, technical expertise, and a dedication to quality that has had a lasting impact on the company’s growth and standards.

In January 2024, Dan approached Joseph about becoming a business partner, and Joseph officially joined as co-owner. Together, they share a commitment to exceptional service, quality craftsmanship, and customer satisfaction throughout Cape May County.

Nearly three decades in the pool business later, that founding idea has not changed. The company is still based in Stone Harbor, still serving the same communities, and still run by the same people who started it.

What Makes Us Different

  1. In Business Since 2006. PM Pools & Spas has been serving homeowners in Stone Harbor, Avalon, and Cape May County for nearly two decades. That kind of track record does not happen without doing good work.
  2. PHTA Member Since Day One. Less than 20% of pool builders in North America bother to join the only national organization that sets the standards and ethics for the industry. We have been a member since we first opened our doors.
  3. Certified Building Professional (CBP)®. This PHTA certification covers pool design, construction standards, hydraulics, and engineering. It is one of the most respected credentials a pool builder can hold.
  4. Certified Service Professional (CSP)®. Our CSP credential covers everything from pool structures and electrical systems to water chemistry and filtration. It means the people servicing your pool actually know what they are doing.
  5. Certified Service Technician (CST)®. Every technician who works on your pool meets a recognized PHTA industry standard before they ever set foot on your property.
  6. Certified Pool Startup Technician. Through the National Plasterers Council, this certification ensures your new pool is started up correctly from day one, protecting the finish and the water quality right from the start.
  7. NESPA Service Company of Excellence. This award is given to a select group of pool service companies in the Northeast that meet a strict set of above and beyond service criteria. Not every company earns it.
  8. PHTA Awards of Excellence Winner. Our pool designs have been recognized among the best in the industry by the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance, competing against builders from all over the world.
  9. More Than Half Our Business Comes from Referrals. We do not spend money chasing new customers. Most of the people who call us were sent by someone whose pool we already built or maintain.
  10. Everything Is Done In-House. We personally oversee all aspects of the swimming pool project. We work hand-in-hand with local contractors, plumbers, electricians, landscapers, and masons to ensure each project runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Certified Pool Startup Technician (NPC)

The National Plasterers Council developed this certification in partnership with industry professionals and scientists at the National Pool Industry Research Center at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The program focuses on the correct chemical startup process for plaster pools, which is one of the most critical steps in new pool construction. Getting it right from the beginning protects the plaster finish, maintains water quality, and prevents problems that are expensive to fix later. To earn the certification, technicians must pass a written exam and demonstrate hands-on proficiency with water testing.

The NESPA “Service Company of Excellence” Award

The NESPA organization annually awards a “Service Company of Excellence” recognition to a select group of pool service companies in the North Eastern United States who meet the stringent “above and beyond” service criteria created by the NESPA organization. This award is given exclusively to NESPA members who exemplify the best in customer service and customer relations.

Northeast Spa & Pool Association (NESPA)

The Northeast Spa & Pool Association exists to create a professional climate in which to advance commercial activities, and to address the current and future needs of the pool and spa industry.

In the late 1950s, members of the swimming pool industry in the northeast section of the U.S. banded together to form Northeast Swimming Pool Association (NESPA) to address their collective needs. The organization has been continuously engaged in promoting and protecting its members and educating them and raising their levels of competency in all phases of business activity.

NESPA also serves as a source of product and safety information for the end consumer. For over forty years, NESPA has been affiliated with the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP). NESPA’s other “trademark” activity is the Professional Training Institute, which began as Hands-On-Training Institute in 1984. PTI offers the industry’s broadest, most comprehensive training programs designed to upgrade professional skills in building, service, management and retail operations.
